WWI Remuera families with more than one son killed in WW1

There were several Remuera families with more than one son killed in WW1: 

  1. The Crowhurst family who had 11 sons, with 5 serving in WW1, 3 of whom died - Arthur, Francis and Samuel; there is a family grave memorial in St Mark's Anglican Church yard at 95 Remuera Road, Remuera. 
  2. Hewitt & Frederick Barnard Brown of Entrican Avenue and 194 Remuera Road;
  3. Blackie brothers Bernard at Messines and Owen from wounds at Passchendaele and influenza; 
  4. Augustus and John Irving, at Messines and Passchendaele; 
  5. Harold and Bert Stilton of influenza on 10th & 11th November 1918 respectively, followed by their mother Fanny on the 14th November 1918, also from influenza
  6. Thomas and David Ernest at the Battle of Messines & Battle of the Somme;
  7. Ralph and Eric Coates, who died at the Battle of Messines and of influenza in November 1918 after serving continuously at Gallipoli, respectively
  8. Major George Holland, M.C. who died at the Somme one week after his brother Frederick was killed near Ieper (Ypres) in 1918.
  9. Edgar and Arthur Boucher at Passchendaele & from influenza; and 
  10. the Birnie brothers (3 of 7) Robert at the Battle of the Somme, Charles at the Battle of Etaples and Arthur in Palestine.
